Waking Up by Sam Harris, 5 out of 5 stars

Waking Up by Sam Harris, 5 out of 5 stars

A great introduction to mindfulness. This book has the tagline “a guide to spirituality without religion” and I think that sums up the book well. For anyone who is turned off by Harris from his atheism debates, this book is different from that side of him. He doesn’t spend time opposing religion, but rather shows how the “religious impulse” can be satisfied through other means. It’s filled with plenty of arguments that include philosophical thought experiments that test your morals. It dives into the ambiguous territory with situations you may not have considered and how they fall into the gray area of morality.

I had already had positive experiences with mindfulness before this book, but it really continued my appreciation for the practice and validated my experience. Many people have found this to be a very important book for their life and I highly recommend it.
