Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk, 4 out of 5 stars
I’ll start by saying that if it wasn’t for Palahniuk’s writing style, this would be a 3 star review. He has a way with words and a writing style that I really enjoy, but this book was a bit long-winded. The story was interesting enough, a lullaby that kills people when spoken, but the reason I don’t need to put a spoiler alert is that it’s discovered very early in the book, and is even mentioned in many of the book summaries. Most of the book is spent trying to find and destroy this page in a book of lullabies for babies. It easily could’ve been written in half as many pages. There are some nice surprises in there, but the whole middle chunk of the book is pretty repetitive and it was hard to keep interest. I’d still recommend it just for the good story that it was, but you really gotta push through the middle.
